Mysore style classes share their namesake with their birthplace of Mysore, India. This is the traditional method of passing on the teachings of Yoga from teacher to student in a one on one fashion. Students practice together in the same room however, everyone moves at their own pace, receives specific and individual instruction from the teacher, and progresses at a speed appropriate for their ability.
Mysore classes are a progressive learning experience in that postures, breathing techniques, and philosophies are learned over a period of time. As a student integrates what he or she has learned and is ready for more, the teaching advances - because of this approach, Mysore Classes are not “drop in” classes. To reap the benefits of a Mysore practice a student must be ready and willing to commit to practicing with us a minimum of two to three mornings per week.
All individuals may practice Mysore Ashtanga - it is truly one of the best ways to begin. While it may seem intimidating at first, after the first few breaths all students will feel right at home.
This very special led class will be a selection of postures from the first, second, and third series of Ashtanga Yoga. While this class will offer modifications it is not recommended for those new to Yoga. We will explore deep forward folds, twists, back-bends, arm balances and inversions. After class we will have a potluck in the Alchemy Kitchen.
